The UAE Embassy in Seoul participated in the investment event organized by the Institute of Middle Eastern Studies of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) on March 25, 2022. The event was sponsored by the National Research Foundation (NRF) and co-organized with the Korea International Trade Association (KITA). Issa Al Samahi, Deputy Head of Mission, presented a presentation that addressed the UAE's efforts in carbon neutralization and introduced the opportunities for Korean foreign direct investment in carbon neutralization work in the UAE.

The UAE's great efforts in working to preserve the climate were reviewed by introducing the UAE to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer in 1989, joining the United Nations Climate Convention in 1995, ratifying the Kyoto Convention in 2005, and in addition to the Paris Agreement in 2015. As the first countries to join these global conventions.

The UAE announced its establishment of a national climate plan in 2017, which aims to contribute effectively to the UAE’s trend towards economic diversification in this aspect, in addition to reducing emissions by 70 million tons by 2030 and reducing the intensity of total emissions in the UAE by 23.5% by 2030 compared to 2016.

The UAE also announced a strategic initiative by 2050 based on reducing the state's contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions, providing economic opportunities, building a knowledge-based economy, protecting the environment, attracting foreign direct investment in this aspect, and developing competencies in future growth areas.

The UAE is one of the first countries in the Middle East to use peaceful nuclear energy as the Baraka project, which was established in cooperation with the Republic of Korea, which has a special strategic partnership with the UAE in various fields and sectors.
