President Aquino receives Plaque of Appreciation from KJC

President Park hosts party for
RP President Aquino in Seoul

President Park Geun-hye hosted a state banquet for the visiting President Benigno S. Aquino III of the Republic of Philippines at the Presidential Mansion of Cheong Wa Dae on Oct. 17, 2013.

At the party, President Park emphasized the importance of President Aquino's state visit to Korea stating that the visit can lead the two nations down the path of trust and understanding, and build a better future for Korea and the Philippines.

Then she said, “I hope today's meeting can help deepen the friendship between Korea and the Philippines and serve as a starting point that can offer a future of happiness for the peoples of the two countries."

During the banquet, President Park said that both the Korean people and herself truly welcomed President Aquino's state visit to Korea. She said, "Thanks to President Aquino's special, long-lasting affection for Korea, the two countries were able to narrow the gap and become closer friends, based on belief and trust."

She said that "the sacrifice and devotion of his father led to today's precious meeting between President Aquino and me."

The father of President Aquino, Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr. (1932-1983), served as a war correspondent for The Manila Times covering the Korean War (1950-1953).

In a related development on the following day (Oct. 18), President Aquino was presented with a Plaque of Appreciation by President Hong Won-Kee of the Korean Journalists Club in Seoul for his late father, Senator Benigno S. Aquino, Jr., who covered Korea as a war correspondent of the Philippines.

At a ceremony held at the War Memorial of Korea, President presented the Plaque in recognition of the late Senator Aquino's gallantry and valuable contribution to the promotion of world peace and freedom. Senator Aquino served as a war correspondent of The Manila Times during the Korean War (1950-53).

At the War Memorial of Korea, President Aquino also paid a tribute to the Philippine soldiers, who lost their lives during the Korean War. There was a monument for 112 Philippine soldiers who died during the Korean War in the War Memorial of Korea. k
