Hyundai Department Pangyo Store, ‘Unveiling Centuries Old Secrets’

Pernod Ricard Korea announced that it will open a pop-up at Hyundai Department Pangyo Store for its modern classic Scotch whisky brand Ballantine’s, “Ballantine’s Single Malt Glenburgie: Unveiling Centuries Old Secrets”, until 30 April (Sunday).

‘Ballantine’s Single Malt Glenburgie’, as one of the three main malt whiskies that play a significant role in whisky blending at Ballantine’s, is born in the Glenburgie Distillery which, at the heart of Ballantine’s whisky, uniquely captures the essence of the Ballantine’s style.

This pop-up with a theme, ‘Unveiling Centuries Old Secrets’, will be arranged as an event for visitors to explore and experience the secrets in Ballantine’s Single Malt Glenburgie. Visitors will be introduced to the traditional whisky-making process shared among only 5 Master Blenders throughout 200 years of great history, and the heritage of Ballantine’s that preserves its finest quality to this day.

What is interesting about the pop-up is its design, organized as if the Glenburgie Distillery has been taken directly from the Speyside region of Scotland, known as the whisky heaven. At the pop-up, visitors can appreciate the quintessence of whisky, from malted barley, a key ingredient in whisky making; an artwork that depicts the natural mineral water flowing in neighboring areas of the distillery; a structural piece that represents distilleries and the time taken for undiluted whiskies to mature in oak casks; to an artistic production illustrating the 4 essential elements in crafting the finest whisky.

There also will be an ‘exhibition zone’ at the Ballantine’s single malt pop-up, displaying the entire Glenburgie 12 Year Old, 15 Year Old and 18 Year Old line-up. The zone has been designed in careful consideration of how aromas are critical to whiskies, and allows visitors to nose the products, intuitively sensing the individualities of each whisky.

A tasting program will also be run for a firsthand Ballantine’s Single Malt Glenburgie experience. Through the tasting program, pop-up visitors will taste 3 Glenburgie products, and obtain detailed information on whisky. There will also be additional weekend-only events, including brand deep-dive sessions with professional bartenders, and cocktail making classes using Ballantine’s Glenburgie, prepping visitors for occasions such as home parties.

To celebrate the opening of the pop-up, Ballantine’s Master Blender, Sandy Hyslop, will pay a visit to provide information on the products and join single malt enthusiasts for a special session. Master Blenders behind Ballantine’s are the only persons with knowledge of the blending techniques to respect the consistent Ballantine’s-exclusive whisky style that survives time, and are living guardians for Ballantine’s, preserving and continuing its tradition and history. Sandy Hyslop has been a Master Blender since 2005, and travels around the world to deliver the tradition and values of Ballantine’s.

Meanwhile, Ballantine’s single malt pop-up welcomes all legal adults free of charge during the operating hours of the department store. Ballantine’s 12 Year Old, 15 Year Old and 18 Year Old Single Malt Glenburgie will be available for purchase at the pop-up, together with a diversity of visual attractions and a hashtag event.
