The news media in Seoul have begun expressing doubts over the way the government has been handling North Korea. Standing out from the problems is the alleged hiding of information by the Ministry of National Unification (MNU) which concerns the use of government budget in helping North Korea.
In one instance, according to media reports including Korea’s leading daily, Chosun Ilbo on Oct. 25, 2018, the MNU has allegedly used more than 100 times the amount officially approved in repairing the Inter-Korean Liaison Office at Panmunjom Truce Village. The MNU had had an official approval of only 86 million won but, in fact, the Ministry reportedly used 9.78 billion won.

In the eyes of the general public, the MNU cheated the Korean people.
A recent survey on the Presidential hopefuls for the 2022 Presidential elections, the top winner was President Yoo Seung-min of the splinter opposition Bareunmirae Party followed by is incumbent Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon. Mayor Park Won-soon of the Seoul City (largely considered a sure bet among the ruling camp to succeed President Moon) placed third among the hopefuls.
The Chosun survey may come as a sheer surprise to many people in the ruling camp, but among the people in the know the report gets an approving nod.
The Moon government seems to be losing a lot of votes where his policies concern North Korea.
In the opinion of many people in the Republic of Korea (south), it is best to continue to maintain the strong bonds with the United States and Japan who want to keep the ROK on the side of the Free World.
Many people in the South know that the per-capita GNI of North Korea is less than one 40th of that of the ROK and that the comparison between the ROK and Japan is one to more than four in favor of Japan.
In the case of the Unite States
The South Koreans want to help their North Korean brethren.
However, North Korea has a good number of nuclear bombs that the South doesn’t. And there is no sign of the North’s giving them up—as of this time in spite of all the rhetoric.
Furthermore, North Korea has more than three times the strength of the armed forces of South Korea.
It is simply amazing why Chairman Kim Jong Il wants to keep so many soldiers when he is unable even to feed his people!
Chairman Kim knows that South Korea will not attack him. Kim knows that Trump will not invade his country.
Why keep so many 3 million soldiers when he is unable to feed his people properly? And why keep the nukes if he does not want to attack the South?
