Today’s humor:

Humor from a generous former Asian ambassador

‘I’m the driver’

A man trying to get on an overcrowded bus was pushed off by the people inside. ‘There's no room,' they said. 'It's full up!'

'But you must let me on!' shouted the man.

'Why, what's so special about you?' they asked.

‘I'm the driver,' replied the man.

Gold fish inside the cat

Little Tim was in the garden filling in a hole when his neighbor peered over the fence.

Interested in what the cheeky-faced youngster was up to, he politely asked,

"Whatcha doing, Tim?"

"My goldfish died," replied the boy tearfully, without looking up. "And I've just buried him."

The neighbor was concerned. "That's an awfully big hole for a goldfish, isn't it?"

Tim patted down the last heap of earth then replied, "That's because he's inside your cat."

A vs F graded

The boys have just got their grades from their female sex education teacher.

Three of them who got F’s were furious at the way they had been graded.

One of the three said, “We should get her for this!”

“Yeah, let’s grab her dick and yank it!” said the second.

“Yeah,” said the third. “And then let’s kick her in the nuts!”

Then the fourth boy who got A graded interrupted, “You fools! Don’t you know she has neither a penis nor testicles.”

[News analysis] With Ban Ki-moon’s visit called off, inter-Korean relations still stalled

Ban’s critical comments about N. Korea, and UN affiliation, may be why Pyongyang abruptly revoked his invitation

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has been under constant pressure to play a significant role in improving inter-Korean relations before completing his term at the end of next year. After North Korea abruptly revoked permission for Ban’s visit to the Kaesong Industrial Complex on May 20, the day before he was supposed to arrive, it appears likely that inter-Korean relations will remain will remain in their current poor state for some time to come.

Is Ban Ki-moon considering a run for president in 2017?

After plans for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to visit the Kaesong Industrial Complex fell through on May 20, some political pundits suggest that this will add another wrinkle to a future presidential run, along with the Sung Wan-jong corruption scandal. While Ban has definitely stated that he has no interest in politics, there is rampant speculation in political circles about the possibility of him running for president. .

THAAD again bubbling up as a political issue

Senior US officials are once again talking about the deployment of a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system on the Korean Peninsula. After remarks on the issue from Secretary of State John Kerry on May 18, now the Assistant Secretary of State and Joint Chiefs of Staff Vice Chairman have added to the mounting pressure on Seoul with calls for the permanent deployment of the missile defense system in South Korea. The comments are being seen by some as a renewed push in the wake of North Korea’s recent test launch of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM). .

Down on their luck, more homeless foreigners found on the streets of Seoul

It was the evening of Apr. 22, near exit 2 of Seoul Station. A homeless person who was idly sitting on a flowerbed near the exit swigged the dregs of a bottle of makgeolli (Korean rice beer) left there by other homeless people. A few hours later, the dead body of this homeless person was discovered. In his pocket was a passport from Kazakhstan and a mobile phone that only showed he had received calls from overseas. .

Wars of words escalating between South and North Korean leaders

South and North are ratcheting up their potshots against each other’s leaders. The escalating rhetoric could spell trouble for planned joint events to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the June 15 Joint Declaration and the 70th anniversary of Korean independence. From the South, President Park Geun-hye herself took center stage on May 19. Speaking in a celebratory address at the Asian Leadership Conference in Seoul, Park declared that North Korea “has recently raised military tensions with its test launch of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM), .

Women peace activists leave Beijing for Pyongyang

“We want our footsteps to be a comfort to the people who have long suffered under division on the Korean Peninsula, and to open up the possibility of a brighter future toward unification.”Around 30 prominent women’s rights and peace advocates from 15 countries left Beijing for Pyongyang on May 19 for the Women Cross DMZ Peace Walk event. Their five-day visit will see them staging symposiums and recitals in North Korea on “women and peacemaking” and visiting children’s hospitals. On May 24, they are scheduled to walk across the DMZ and arrive in South Korea at Panmunjeom.
