Special lecture at the Annual Meeting of Governors Association of RoK (GAROK)
Ambassador Amit Kumar delivered a special lecture on India’s Innovative Economy at the Annual Meeting of the Governors Association of the Republic of Korea (GAROK) held at Gwangju city on 31 March 2023. More than 200 officials of metropolitan, provincial and local governments attended the session. The year 2023 is a milestone year as India and the Republic of Korea celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations
In his remarks, Amb Kumar provided an overview of bilateral relations, spoke about India’s current and mid-term growth prospects, made the case for closer engagement between India and RoK as well as covered areas driving innovation-based economy in India, including digital transformation, renewable energy, outer space, pharma & life sciences, drones, startups & entrepreneurship.
He also dwelt on the federal structure of governance, how states today are competing for foreign investment and how several cities in India like Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, etc. have evolved into engines of economic growth, bolstered by new and innovative industries and ventures.
Meeting with Mayor of Gwangju Kang Gi-jung
Ambassador Amit Kumar met Mayor of Gwangju Kang Gi-jung and discussed initiatives to promote commercial, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, as India and RoK celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations this year.
Meeting with President of the Asia Culture Center, Gwangju
Ambassador Amit Kumar met President Lee Kanghyun of Asian Cultural Centre in Gwangju. They discussed potential activities to celebrate the golden jubilee of India-RoK bilateral relations. The Embassy has partnered with ACC in the past on promotion of Indian culture, yoga and films.
