Discuss topics such as deepening bilateral cooperation on critical minerals

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Lee Do-hoon participated in a bilateral meeting with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Jose Fernandez on June 27.

The bilateral meeting took place on the sidelines of the ROK-U.S.-Mongolia trilateral dialogue on critical minerals held in Ulanbataar, Mongolia. The two sides discussed topics such as deepening bilateral cooperation on critical minerals and on major economic issues.

Vice Minister Lee and Under Secretary Fernandez appreciated the successful launch of the ROK-U.S.-Mongolia trilateral dialogue platform on critical minerals and agreed to maintain close cooperation so that the platform could become an exemplary case of cooperation with countries abundant in natural resources.

Also, the ROK and the U.S. promised to contribute to the stabilization of global supply chains by continuously strengthening their coordination in the Minerals Security Partnership (MSP).

They also shared a common understanding on the importance of maintaining and further developing the momentum created during President Yoon’s successful state visit to the U.S. last April, and agreed to continue efforts to faithfully implement what had been agreed upon between President Yoon and President Biden, especially in the fields of economic security and critical and emerging technologies.

In addition, Vice Minister Lee once again requested U.S. support for the ROK’s bid to host World Expo 2030 in Busan.
