Seongbuk-gu hosts the 10th Latin American Festival, 9 September (Sat), 12-19pm

 Spread across Seongbukcheon Fountain Maru and Seongbukcheon Stream in Hansung University Entrance Area on Subway Line

The colourful, free-spirited and passionate Latin culture of Latin America is coming to Seoul this autumn.

Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, will host the 'Latin American Festival' on Saturday, 9 September, at Seongbukcheon Fountain Maru and Seongbukcheon Stream.

The 'Latin American Festival', which will be held for the 10th time this year, is expected to be held in addition to the existing event venue, Seongbukcheon Fountain Maru, by creating a promenade along Seongbukcheon Stream as a rest area, so that people can enjoy the festival more leisurely.

In addition, the festival will showcase even more diverse attractions and food with the participation and sponsorship of 14 Latin American embassies, including the Embassy of Guatemala in Korea.

A total of 23 sales and experience booths will be available at the festival. The sales booths will offer a taste of the exotic flavours of Latin America, including traditional dishes such as antichurros, empanadas, tacos, and pupusas, as well as souvenirs with a Latin American flavour, including traditional hats, musical instruments, accessories, and specialty items.

At the experience booths, you can dress up in traditional Latin American costumes and play a variety of musical instruments.

There will also be performances of Argentine tango, zumba, and Latin dance, as well as traditional musical instruments and a demonstration of capoeira, a traditional Brazilian martial art, to bring Latin American culture from the other side of the world to life in Seongbuk-gu.

 

 

On the day of the event, the Honorary Mayor of Seongbuk-dong, Hans Alexander Kneider, will declare the opening of the festival, and guests including ambassadors from various countries will celebrate the festival together.

 

Seongbuk-gu Mayor Lee Seung-ro said, "The Latin American Festival, which started in 2011 without proper stage facilities, has now reached its 10th year and has become a representative global festival in Seoul."

"We hope that the festival will become a place where residents of Seongbuk-gu and foreigners can come together to feel the colourful and free style and passion of Latin America, share friendship with each other, and share the values of peace and coexistence."

 

Seongbuk-gu will use a portion of the proceeds from booth sales during the event to help low-income multicultural families through a social welfare joint fundraiser.
