hosted On 6th of September, the Brazilian Embassy an event to commemorate the 201st anniversary of Brazil's independence and the 60th anniversary of Korean-Brazilian immigration history at the Four Seasons Hotel in Gwanghwamun. Brazil is an important country in the centre of South America, best known for its international footballer Pele.
It is a country of passion and enthusiasm, a cultural mecca in Latin America, and the Samba Carnival, a traditional arts and culture festival, is held every year in São Paulo. The female ambassador of the Brazilian Embassy H.E. Márcia Donner Abreu, is a South American icon with her passion and friendly smile.
The first official immigration of Koreans to Brazil began in 1962, after the establishment of the Korean government. At that time, 102 Koreans left the port of Busan and arrived at the port of Santos. In 1980, the number of invitations to relatives increased, and now there are about 50,000 Koreans living in Brazil. Korean-owned clothing companies account for more than 50 per cent of sales in the Brazilian women's clothing market. The second generation of Korean immigrants are mostly engaged in professional occupations and represent the status of Koreans.

As you know, Brazil has returned to the world. President Lula da Silva's third term has formed the backbone of Brazil's foreign policy as a global player: peaceful relations, dialogue and consensus building, a proud South American presence, a firm belief in multilateralism, a commitment to sustainable development, and active advocacy of human rights.
We are doing our part by protecting indigenous and other vulnerable populations and their rich traditional rituals, enhancing renewable energy production, implementing low-carbon green businesses, and promoting a new industrialisation model that is greener and focused on technology and productivity.
In these challenging times, Brazil is committed to promoting development and democracy, based on social justice and inclusion, at home and abroad. It is harnessing technological advances to promote sustainable growth and combat poverty, hunger, climate change, or emerging infectious diseases.
In my first year, we have hosted a wide range of economic and governmental delegations. I expect to lay the foundation for more interactions and joint projects in the future.
As we celebrate the 60th anniversary of Korean immigration to Brazil, the Korean community is increasingly engaging in people-to-people and business exchanges between the two countries.
Meanwhile, k-pop, k-beauty, and k-drama are attracting attention in Brazil along with the rest of the world, and the number of Brazilian visits to Korea is also increasing. We would like to thank BRF, Lattitude3733, , Hyundae MOTORS, Humane, and Ob Beer for their support for today's event.
