The National Natural Recreation Forest Management Center of the Korea Forest Service (Director Kim Myung-jong) will host the 6th ASEAN Food and Culture Festival at the National ASEAN Recreation Area in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province on October 28-29, 2023 to promote friendship and cultural exchange between the people of Korea and the peoples of the ASEAN countries.

The event has been organized once a year for the past four years, starting with the first two in 2019, for ASEAN families living in Korea to understand each other's cultures and to promote the establishment and operation of the National ASEAN Recreation Forests.

In particular, this time, in cooperation with the Multicultural Support Center of the Uijeongbu City, the event will invite 40 families from ten ASEAN member countries living in Korea to participate in a variety of activities such as cooking Korean dishes, showcasing ASEAN food dishes from each country, playing traditional Korean games, performing cultural performances in the forest by five teams, including famous singer Kim Bo-kyung, and screening ASEAN films provided by the ASEAN Cultural Centre.

Meanwhile, the National ASEAN Nature Recreation Forest was established to commemorate the ASEAN-Korea Special Summit in 2009 and to promote continued forestry cooperation and friendship with ASEAN countries, including the establishment of the ASEAN Forestry Cooperation Organization (AFoCO), which was launched under the leadership of Korea in 2012.

It was created in 2012 with a total investment of 8 billion won and opened in 2015, and operates a total of 16 facilities, including a forest house themed on traditional houses from 10 ASEAN countries.

"Through this event, we will continue to organize various programs to promote cultural exchange and communication between Korea and ASEAN member states," staed Kim Myung-jong, director of the National Natural Recreation Forest Management Center of the Korea Forest Service. Then he said: "We hope that this will be a fun time for families from ASEAN member states to share their happy times and memories."
