[Korea, November 23] An event will take place to deliver advanced prosthetics to support the walking and daily lives of national merit recipients who were injured while serving the country.

The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (Minister Park Min-shik) announced on the 22nd that a ceremony to support advanced prosthetics, including robotic hands and legs and multifunctional wheelchairs to the injured national merit recipients, will be held on the 23rd (Thursday) at 3 PM at the POSCO Center (Gangnam-gu) in Seoul. The event will be attended by about 50 people, including Vice Minister Yoon Jong-jin of MPVA, Yang Won-jun, Head of the Corporate Support Division of POSCO, Persons of National Merit and their families.

Since the 70th anniversary of the Korean War in 2020, POSCO has agreed with MPVA to provide advanced prosthetics to physically challenged Persons of National Merit for three years. 26 recipients were supported in 2020, and 32 in 2021. In 2022, the scope was expanded to include 30 Persons of National Merit, 2 active-duty soldiers, and 16 firefighters.

Especially this year, in consideration of the meaning of the project to repay dedication to the country, POSCO extended the agreement period by two years. Accordingly, this year, a total of 50 people including 27 Persons of National Merit, 1 active-duty personnel, and 22 firefighters will be supported with advanced prosthetics.

The robotic legs not only support natural walking but also running, cycling, and various other activities, and is waterproof. The robotic hands can independently operate five fingers with added agility and precision, including a rotating thumb, allowing for various activities.

Vice Minister Yoon Jong-jin expressed gratitude for POSCO's extension of the agreement and support for the healthy lives of Persons of National Merit and uniformed personnel, stating, "The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs will make its best efforts to expand support for advanced prosthetics and rehabilitation policies for the healthy and honorable lives of those who have sacrificed and dedicated themselves for the country."
