Vice President Byoung-kwan Choi of NST Co said, “We try to connect people and information more closely and we pursue people's safety and happiness by

connecting more devices faster and securely.” Speaking with The Korea Post media recently in Seoul, VP Cho then added, “We look at technology from a human perspective, for human value, in the upcoming hyper-connected society.”

Then he said, “The ultimate goal of the NST is technology and products that make people happy.”

Details of interview with VP Cho follow:

Established in 1997, NST Co. has recently introduced a specialized manufacturing company for the development of aircraft ground guidance control, network, communication, and IoT equipment.

Through its independent research institute, NST is known to lead with its proprietary technology in aircraft ground guidance control at airports, Smart City projects for public institutions, railway communication, enterprise solutions, and communication for residential complexes.

Today, NST presents the ILCMS, which monitors the individual lighting status of aircraft landing lights installed on runways and taxiways, and apron areas using power line communication, ensuring the stability of aircraft movement in case of low visibility orders, extending the lifespan of aircraft lighting, and maximizing energy savings of over 50%, thus simplifying and efficiently performing airport operations and maintenance.

Moreover, it actively contributes to the practice of low-carbon green growth.

This system is categorized into three stages: 1st stage ILCMS, 2nd stage SMGCS, and 3rd stage A-SMGCS, implementing 100% of the functions recommended by ICAO.

In addition to implementing these stages, NST has developed a system with special features, A-SMGCS, to be applied to airports worldwide, including Korea.

1. High Voltage Line Short Circuit Monitoring System:

This function, the world's first, is designed to inform preventive maintenance by replacing high voltage lines before they short circuit, causing grounding and arcing within underground conduits.

2. Integrated IRU (Individual Radio Unit) and TR (Transformer):

Unlike existing ILCMS installations that use IRU between TR and aviation guidance lights, we have integrated IRU with TR, reducing noise and ensuring smooth communication.

3. 3D Control Screen:

While conventional airports rely on 2D screens for control, NST’s system provides a 3D visualization of the airport using GPS coordinates, easing the burden on controllers and maximizing operational efficiency.

4. System for Monitoring Aircraft during Low Visibility Landing:

NST has developed a patent-protected video system allowing controllers to monitor aircraft landing during low visibility conditions.

5. VDGS (Visual Docking Guidance System) Approach System:

A system equipped with infrared cameras and monitors to provide precise information on the aircraft's position, aiding pilots during bridge arrival and stopping at the designated point.

6. Aircraft Positioning System Using Lidar:

To overcome radar malfunctions during severe weather, a system is developed that integrates Lidar with ASDE (Airport Surface Detecting Equipment) to track the real-time position of aircraft using triangulation.

7. Providing Arrival Times to Controllers at Runway Threshold:

A patent-protected feature providing controllers with accurate arrival times of aircraft 99 seconds in advance, optimizing the efficiency of aircraft landing and takeoff operations.

NST has completed comprehensive preparations for the global installation of this system at airports worldwide. Through functions such as surveillance, routing, guidance, and control, NST strives to ensure safe and smooth air traffic control within airports.

8. Most importantly, the revised regulations of ICAO include the necessity for the introduction of such aircraft guidance control systems.
