□ A total of 10 participants, represented by 2 government departments of Fiji (The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and the Ministry of Trade, Cooperatives, and SMEs) and local village leaders, attended the workshop which was held as part of the Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety of South Korea. Through the workshop and study visits to Saemaul Geumgo offices, the participants gained knowledge about the operational mechanism of Saemaul Geumgo, particularly regarding its governance, savings, loans, among others.

□ Since 2016, the KFCC has been executing international development cooperation projects in developing countries for the dissemination of Saemaul Geumgo financial inclusion model. As a result, a total of 58 Saemaul Geumgo have been successfully established and operated by local village communities in Myanmar, Uganda, and Laos.

□ In particular, Fiji is currently formulating a strategic plan for largely enhancing financial inclusion through establishing Saemaul Geumgo and simultaneously adopting digital platform. In this effort, Fiji has initiated cooperation with Google.

□ This workshop is expected to contribute significantly to digital financial inclusion in Fiji through Saemaul Geumgo since it was attended by the government officials that serve as Saemaul Geumgo Task Force (TF) Team as well as IT experts for digital transformation.

□ Timothy Paolini, Global Lead of Google in charge of the Asia-Pacific region, states, “We shall cooperate with Saemaul Geumgo in the effort of establishing digital platform for financial inclusion in developing countries including Fiji.”
