Public Debate with the People - Second, Housing

Everyone, it's great to see you all here in such cold weather. When I first decided to become a politician, the most important thing I thought about was the real estate issue, and throughout the presidential election, I heard a lot of lamentations that I couldn't live anywhere in the country because of the price of housing, that young people couldn't get married because they couldn't find a house, and so on. So, since I was elected president, I have been focusing all my energy on solving the real estate issue. There are shortcomings, but I will speed up as soon as possible to solve this problem and relieve people's worries about housing.

A little while ago, I visited an old apartment in the new city of Ilsan, which is over 30 years old. I also worked here in the past, and Baeksong Village, which I visited a little while ago, is a place that I am very familiar with because many of the employees who worked with me in the past used to live there. When I was in the public service, I used to travel around the country with a suitcase, so I've lived in local government offices, so I know firsthand how uncomfortable 25-, 30-year-old apartments are, and how badly they deteriorate.

Even the apartment in Baeksong Village that I just went to, it looks fine because it's painted on the outside, but when I went to the underground car park and inside the house, it wasn't true, but if you do a safety diagnosis, it's fine, so now they can't rebuild it. It's a really unfortunate situation, and from a national perspective, it's a situation like this, and if residents want to exercise their collective property rights, but the government is blocking it, I think it's a bit pathetic, and I think we need to collect our wisdom, take legal action, get the cooperation of the National Assembly, and legislate, so that we can solve these problems at a fast pace.

The theme of today's second public discussion is 'Housing that the people want'. There are many old houses across the country waiting to be rebuilt and redeveloped. In the past, redevelopment was prevented because house prices were rising, but then there was a contradictory phenomenon that caused house prices to rise even more because there was a shortage of supply, and we have felt it a lot. It's a big problem that hasn't been fixed so far, so it takes a long time to commute to work, and this is a reality that is too far from people's happiness. So I think we need to relieve this pain quickly.

We have already experienced the side effects of these misguided regulations and the suffering of the people, and we need to liberate the real estate issue from politics and ideology in terms of the market, in terms of respecting the free exercise of property rights, free choice, and let it work according to economic principles, according to market principl.
