At a press conference on Feb. 20, 2022, Ahn said that he had waited for one week for a response from Presidential Candidate Yoon of the PPP—with no available. He said that he has decided it was meaningless to wait for Yoon’s affirmative response any longer.
Ahn had proposed a single candidacy with Yoon early last week emphasizing that the two parties must seek a single candidate to secure victory from Presidential Candidate Lee Jae-myung of the ruling Democratic Party.
Ahn’s declaration of abandonment of cooperation with Yoon is expected to deal a considerable blow to Yoon at this time when the day of voting is only a little over two weeks away on March 9.
Political observers say that Yoon’s camp suffers from lack of eligible negotiators who can successfully to meet Ahn’s wishes half-way offering him an attractive share such as sharing some of the important government positions such as the prime minister and an economic and/or technological minister as Ahn is professionally a computer expert.
