With Presidential message for increased bilateral cooperation, friendship

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure & Transport (MOLIT) announced yesterday that Minister Won Hee-ryong will visit Nigeria on the October 19-20 as Presidential envoy.

During his visit, Minister Won will meet with the Nigerian President, Vice President and other top officials and deliver a letter of goodwill from President Yoon Suk-yeol.

The letter reportedly calls for further strengthening the friendly and cooperative relations between the Republic of Korea and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who celebrated the 43rd anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, aimed at revitalizing technological and economic cooperation.

Earlier, Yoon held talks with President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria during the Group of 20 (G20) Summit in New Delhi, India, last month.

Won will also meet with Nigeria's vice president and others to explore ways to strengthen cooperation in various fields between the two countries, including infrastructure and energy, as well as support activities for Korean companies to enter Nigeria.

Daewoo Engineering & Construction has won a joint order for the 'Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Train 7' plant project in Nigeria worth about 5 trillion won.

According to MOLIT, Nigeria ranks 11th in the world in oil reserves and 10th in natural gas reserves, as well as having a large amount of natural resources such as coal and iron ore.

Won also plans to seek Nigeria's support for the 2030 Busan World Expo (Expo).

"Nigeria is our largest overseas construction order recipient in sub-Saharan Africa, and I hope that our infrastructure cooperation will continue," said Won. "In addition, as there are more than 40 days left to vote on the host country for the Busan Expo, MOLIT will do its best to bid until the last day."
